Ich glaube die Bilder kommen mir bekannt vor, als ob ich das schon irgendwo gesahen habe.
Das ist ja ein riesen Aufwand den Du da betreibst, aber es wird sich bestimmt lohnen.

More pictures?........I think i can manage that ..........

There is 1 more suprise about this car. I will not be putting the old engine back in it, instead i will be fitting a 3.0v6 24v engine from a 164QV (cloverleaf) which is roughly 232hp as standard but mine will be more like 260-280hp

It doesnt take a lot of work to get the 24v engine to that sort of figure. There is a company in UK which produces and sells a cus*** made throttle body kit for that engine which brings a lot of power! Takes away the restrictive Air flow meter which frees up a lot of power, then a full cus*** stainless steel exhaust system to help it breath better (given the age of the car it also does not need catalytic convertors) then finish off with a ecu remap and it gets you to that power figure (or close to it)

A friend of mine has an Alfa 75 with a 24v engine...its currently running about 750HP! It has had a 3.8ltr conversion with forged pistons, high pro**** cams, bigger valves/injectors, its also supercharged and with nitrous! There is a lot more work done to it than i have listed but my god its a powerfull engine! He often snaps the drive shaft or breaks the gearbox mounts even though they have been strengthend

The 24v engine is the same engine as the 12v engine just with a different head on it and set up for FWD. Just need to take the flywheel off the 12v engine and put it on the 24v engine along with a few other little pieces and it fits right in

Well i am officially done for the weekend now, going to chill out and have a well deserved pint in the garden while the weather is good! Got everything done today which i wanted to do and in good time

First of all (a very emotional moment) I gave the car its identity back....

Then got on with fitting the front doors, what a PITA that is to do alone, thankfully my brother came along to help with the passenger side!

Got them both on and 99% of it lined up well with a bit of fiddling around to get it right.

The part which didnt line up too well was the passenger wing....this was the wing which i bought brand new and was never a good fit from the start. its better now than it was though....

The 164 24v engine is a very close match to the 12v from my 75. The exhaust manifolds need to be modified and the flywheel requires a different thread pattern to pair it up with the 24v engine but they are all simple problems and nothing too labour intensive!

The 24v engines from cars like the 156/Gtv/147 are a lot different, longer bolts are required for the flywheel due to different dimensions, the throttle/injection system is 100% electronic which causes more problems and there is also the problem of the immobiliser and key code to get round. The 164 engine is the best option although finding one in good condition is hard!

So i decided to investigate further the condition of this engine and find the cause of the rattle, I think ive found it!

As i originally suspected the big end bearings were at fault i started out and the first couple were not too bad, showing signs of wear and i would/will replace them but nothing which could cause any drama...Then i got to the No,3 cylinder and i believe its clear what the problem was, there was movement on the bot*** end which was quite excessive so already i had an idea i was going to fine the problem.....

Cant see very well from this picture....

    Or this one....

Starting to get a bit clearer what the issue is now....

    And then the clearest pictures.....

Im not sure if its a failure or if it was a fitting error but the locating pins on both halfs of the shell are non existant! Either they have crumbled away or not been fittted right but im pretty confident this is the cause of the problem?

    The rest of the pictures....

This one doesnt look very pretty either....

I forgot to mention, the crank itself wasnt damaged on the No.3 cylinder which i was suprised about given what had happend. This certainly explains the metal shards i found in the sump and hopefully it explains the knocking noise!

My question is, what else could it of damaged because of this? The bore itself looked to be in the same condition as the rest with no major scoring just very very fine marks which you would expect after 142k so thats one thing ruled out but would it effect the main bearings? im assuming it must give even a small ammount of vibration through the crank because of the state of that shell so would that of caused anything else?

I wont be doing anything with this one until i have finished the other one but the plan is to restore this one to original condition. I already have a few parts coming for it so i will be ready to start on it as soon as ive finished this one.#

can't tell if you're having to much time and nothing else to do ... or just beeing megalomaniac

I'm only joking, but i'm sorry i've to disappoint you - I would never dare to start such a project, not enough time and too little talent.

Ok well ive been back since friday and between Getting back and now i actually have managed to get some work done

First thing on my list was to get the new windows fitted (much easier when they are the correct size)

Then i picked up the gearbox after its re-furb and im glad to report it feels amazing! Im sure gear changing will actually be fun instead of worrying about crunching. I have also cleaned up the outside of it a lot more but for some reason no picture.

Then came the job i was dreading for some time, Cleaning up the rear axle! I had a feeling it was gonna be a pain of a job but.......It just wasnt! I did take some before pictures but they were on my phone and i cant seem to get them to upload.........

After it had been painstakingly rubbed down and covered in a layer or 2 of zinc primer

Here is the all over finish once the paint was applied (a good few coats)

Then for extra protection (not that its needed on the hammerite) but i wanted to be sure it doesnt rust away again for some time I covered it in a couple of coats of a tough laquer

Overall it does look pretty damn good but there are a few runs here and there where i got carried away

I also ripped the sump back off the engine to re-tap one of the threads which should hopefully stop the leak.

    Ok so mixed results today!

Bad news first, So you all saw the axle after my valliant attempts to make it look like something good, Still chuffed to bits with it i went to the unit this morning planning to laquer the other side which had not been done yet! The laquer i had used yesterday had sold out so i had to use a different brand although it was the same type..........it didnt go well!!!!!!

Despite following the exact same process this was the result.......

Not sure what has happend but there has been a bad reaction of some description! absolutly gutted! Now i got to re-start the whole process!

Anyway, After much um'ing and ar'ing i decided to buy one of these.......

Best air tool i have ever bought! Honestly i am chuffed to bits with it! Ive used it on the gearbox to try and clean it up a bit before painting........Now yesterday i had already used a knotted brush on a grinder to clean it up but look at the difference.....

Then back to the grinder to clean up the cross member for the axle.....

Then got out the polishing attachment for the drill and decided to have a quick go at the TS brake servo, Not really expecting a gret result but this is what i came to in the short time i attempted it......

Looking forward to carrying this on as its going to look :: :: :: Under the bonnet!

    Oh shit!
But this could happen when you take different brands of laquer, it's bad so you have to do the work gain

Keen on with your good work

It was a late start today mainly due to being lazy but i wanted to tackle re-building the half shafts....

Everything layed out and im full of enthusiasm to get on with it.....

Started by greasing up all the individual components....

Then slowly built up the first joint packing with grease as i go....

But then disaster struck as the joint would not move! Now i was sure i had put something in wrong but couldnt work out what due to the ammount of grease so i built up 2 others both different ways to work out where i went wrong, Thinking i had fitted the centre spiggot upside down i then built another one with it the other way but had the same problem.....

Turned out it wasnt upside down but miss aligned so the ball bearings were actually holding the whole joint rigid! So then build one up correctly and it worked a treat, Tapped the joint onto the shaft and fitted a cv boot (the clips supplied are the wrong size so im going to have to get some more) but this is what the semi finished article looks like......

I cant completely finish it as someone (im going to blame my brother as he isnt around to defend himself) forgot to paint up the end caps so ive had to quickly give them a coat of primer ready to paint ***orrow then laquer the day after ................

Prop shaft after its final coat of laquer and all finished off

Got the cross member in a coat of hammerite special metal primer (not as tidy as im used to as its a brush on jobby but should flat down well ready for the same paint as the rest of the items

Other than that i picked up the 164 leather from the unit and brought it back to the pub as im going to see how far out the mounting points are on 75 no2 (digit) When i get some spare time i will fabricate the new mounts for them and sort the wiring for the electrics

Had a go at getting the rear engine mount in place, Im assuming James will be upset to know that it went swimmingly  Plenty of heat and a few light taps saw it go straight in. Just hope i put it in the right way round....was kind of hard to tell from my old photos

Then got the cross member painted in something other than satin black.........Hammered black

Same with the hubs which should hopefully be getting paired up with the new brakes today

Then gave the brake servo its first coat of laquer. Now the servo is by no means flawless, there were bits which we just couldnt seem to get off with wet and dry wire wool various polishing compounds/wheels etc so instead of throwing more time and money into it i just called it a day and to be honest the result is pretty damn good. Will be better once its all built up ready for fitting

Well today i needed to finish off a little job i started the other day so got the end caps on the cv joints

Then removed the masking tape from the hubs which im beginning to wish i hadnt painted.......Got more paint on the floor than what actually ends up on the hubs

Then paired them up with the brakes

Then fitted the old wheel studs (these will be changed for new ones but i wanted to check if the length was ok before ordering new ones)

A quick test fit which was hard as im still waiting on my new upper arms turning up so cable ties were used

Brake servo built up and almost ready for fitting

    In no paticular order.....

    Front ARB fitted

Upper arms fitted (adjustment still required)
Also had to adjust the tie bar quite a lot as the mount for it on the upper arms is in a different place, When i fitted them without adjusting them the hub was leaned so far back towards the rear of the car so this is now sorted after a lot of hassle and thread re-tapping

While i was doing that i left my brother finishing off the prep on the gearbox ready for painting

I wasnt to cruel to him though as i went and bought a new tool to help him out and can i just say....every garage should have one of these

The wand attachment is just amazing for working in tricky areas such as the gearbox.

Once he had finished i got him to mask up all the areas i didnt want painting, clean it all down then paint it. I must say im more than impressed with the results!

Final coat of laquer to the rear axle

    Then wheel bearings fitted

Then the de-dion bearing upgrade from RSR

Then slowly got on with rebuilding the back end

Just so everyone is aware of the extent im going to here (or how sad i am) this is what i have to go through with every bolt i fit to make sure it looks good.

Ok soooo what have i done......

Got on with test fitting the gearbox which went smoothly but not without difficulty....

Then among other things the front end is now finished off and on wheels (temp wheels for mock up obviously)

I think im happy with the ride height but its hard to tell as the engine among other things is not fitted so it will come down, It also doesnt help that the actuall wheels are not on it but im sure some adjustment to height/toe/camber will be needed once its all finished.

Next job......get the rear axle test fitted and wheels on!

    More progress

Test fit of the engine ready to start routing pipes etc

But i cant get it to line up, had to take the bell housing off to even get it to fit at all and even now its not sitting right.

The front pulley fouls on on the front cross member, i cant remember if i was meant to grind out a section of it to allow for the larger pulley on the 24v engine

Im not sure if you can see from these pictures but its sitting slightly offset/wonkey

    Ok so todays progress........

Had a think about the spoiler/trim on the car and the new spoiler i bought (brand new i might add) is a different colour to the original trim. I tried anything i could think of to get it right but it wouldnt work sooo ive now decided im going to spray it all the same colour as the mirrors/fuel cap etc

Here is a picture of the difference....

So i rubbed it down and painted it the same as the mirrors etc and this is how it came out

Just need to get the rest done now

Then pulled the engine out and tried to re-fit it and its gone in a lot better but still not right, Probably because i was doing it on my own

Then i had to drag the car out of the unit for the first time in over a year as im moving units ***orrow morning and had to have a clear out.....the only problem is it shows up all the dust and dirt on the car now

Going to swing by a jetwash ***orrow on the way to the new unit as i never realised how bad it was without the daylight on it
